Seatbelt Safety Honor Roll

Buckle Up for a Safer Year

Often when making the case for our free driving presentations and resources, we hear, “We don’t really have anyone drive for us.” But as we ask how their employees arrive and depart every day, the realization hits: safe driving is a vital part of safety in any organization. Regardless of whether a car crash becomes an OSHA recordable incident or a workers’ compensation claim, the consequences are real. A crash impacts your workplace whether on or off the clock.

Why a Seatbelt Honor Roll?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) compares state seatbelt usage data regularly. While Nebraska has seen improvement creeping up from 77.3% (49th in the nation) to 80.2% (45th). On average, 70% of Nebraska’s traffic fatalities involve individuals who were not wearing their seatbelts.

We know that a positive safety culture isn’t built on statistics alone; it’s built on proactive habits. That is why, in addition to our free presentations, posters, and handouts, we are reintroducing the Seatbelt Safety Honor Roll.

How Does it Work?

The Honor Roll is built on a simple premise: you cannot manage what you do not measure. By using unannounced observations, we aren’t asking you to play “seatbelt police.” We’re asking you to take a proactive snapshot of your company’s real-world habits. If you don’t already have a seatbelt policy at your workplace reach out and we can help!

How it works:

  1. Download the Kit: Get your Seatbelt Observation Check and instructions.
  2. The “Snapshot”: Conduct an unannounced, non-intrusive observation of employees arriving or leaving the worksite during peak times.
  3. Calculate Your Rate: If your team hit a 90% usage rate or higher, you qualify for the Honor Roll and will receive a certificate of recognition.
  4. Improve and Repeat: If you’re below 90%, use our free resources to educate your team and try again in 30 days.

Next Steps

Last year, we launched the Workplace Driving Safety Award specifically for our member companies. As a reminder, applications for this year’s award are due by February 28th.

Whether you are a member applying for the full award or an organization just starting with the Honor Roll, the goal is the same: making sure every employee makes it home safely at the end of the shift. Depending on when you submit your completed application, we may be able to recognize your organization at one of events throughout the year. Please ask for more information.

Start your first observation today.
