Seatbelt Safety Honor Roll

Overview

Buckle up for recognition! The Seatbelt Safety Honor Roll celebrates companies who make safety a top priority by promoting seatbelt use at their organization. Winning this award shows that you care about protecting your employees and others on the road by leading by example. It’s not just an award—it’s proof your workplace puts safety first, always.

How to Apply

  1. Conduct a Seatbelt Observation Check by downloading the form below.
  2. If your Seatbelt Observation Check resulted in a Seatbelt Usage percentage of 90% or higher, you are eligible for a Seatbelt Safety Award.
  3. Submit your Seatbelt Observation Form and your Workplace Driving Policy using the submission button above.
  4. Your certificate will be mailed to you in 5-10 business days.

If Your Organization Scores Less Than 90%:

  1. You are not eligible for the Seatbelt Safety Honor Roll. Email: safety@safenebraska.org and schedule a free Traffic Safety presentation at your organization to increase seatbelt awareness.
  2. Promote the value of seatbelt safety within your organization using free resources.
  3. Conduct another unannounced Seatbelt Observation Check 30 or more days after the initial check. If your organization reaches a 90% or higher Seatbelt Usage percentage, apply for a Seatbelt Safety Honor Roll.

How to Perform a Seatbelt Observation Check

  1. Plan approximately one hour during peak drive times to observe if people are wearing a seatbelt while driving to or from work. Do not announce that the observation will take place.
  2. Find a location to stand where you are safe from moving vehicles, but can observe seatbelt usage. Print out the seatbelt observation form and mark whether people in each vehicle are yes (Y) wearing their seatbelt, no (N) not wearing a seatbelt, or unknown (U) if you are unsure.
  3. Once you have collected sufficient data, you will need to perform a simple calculation to find the percentage of seatbelt usage. Use the formula below to calculate this.

Workplace Driving Safety Award

The Workplace Driving Safety Award is an award given by the National Safety Council – Nebraska Chapter to members who have gone above and beyond in keeping their employees safe on the road. For the 2027 application year, it will be a requirement that organizations have obtained their Seatbelt Safety Award in order to be considered for the Workplace Driving Safety Award. We recommend organizations who are interested in applying for the Workplace Driving Safety Award in 2027 conduct an unannounced Seatbelt Observation Check and apply for the Seatbelt Safety Honor Roll in the first or second quarters of 2026. This will give your organization enough time to take actions to correct seatbelt use behavior and be awarded a Seatbelt Safety Honor Roll before the end of the 2026 year.
